This is the model of Dictyostelium discoideum pattern formation, published in Gierer, A., Meinhardt, H., Kybernetik 12:30-39, 1972. The partial differential equations describing the reaction-diffusion processes are as follows:

The animation shows the development of the stationary spatial patterns over time, starting from an almost uniform initial concentration distribution.
